EXT. TENNIS COURTS - NIGHT

The tennis courts lay lit amongst the surrounding darkness. THE CRICKETS are the only things that break the silence this winter night.

Daniel watches the courts from behind the fence. His breath condenses in the cold air.

The courts would be empty had it not been for Tad stepping onto them at that moment.

TAD
Hello?!

The only thing that responds is silence.

Tad looks around the empty court searching for signs of Karin.

TAD
I hope you're not hiding from me.

His voice trails off as he continues his way through the courts.

Daniel reaches down and feels the contours of the Berretta, racking the slide.

Tad hears the CLICK of the gun and turns in that direction but Daniel is already gone.

TAD
     (uneasy)
Come out, come out, wherever you are...

Daniel slides his hand across the fence.

Tad quickly turns in that direction expecting to see Karin there but there is nothing.

TAD
     (frustrated)
Come on Karin. I need to get back to the party. I promised Mike I'd give him a ride home.

The FOOTSTEPS from behind him startle him and he turns around.

TAD
There you-

Daniel
Get on your knees.

Before him stands Daniel with the gun pointed at him. Tad's face drops as he sees that it is not Karin.

TAD
Who the hell are you? Where's Karin?

Daniel
     (calm, assertive)
Get on your knees.

TAD
(laughing it off) Wait is this some sort of practical joke.

Daniel
Get on your knees.

Daniel fires a round off near Tad. His eye purse slightly to let Tad know that he is being serious.

Tad jumps as he hears the loud BANG of the shot.

Daniel
Now. Where were we? Yes, I was having you get on your knees.

Tad slowly drops to his knees, his eyes move back and forth as he processes the situation.

TAD
Why are you doing this? I don't even know you?

Daniel
But I know you.

TAD
I don't understand. I don't deserve this.

Daniel
     (mocking laughter)
That's laughable.
     (beat)
     (deadpan)
You don't deserve anything.

Daniel's breathing becomes heavy as his eyes begin to water. The steadiness of his hands begins to fail.

Daniel places the gun against Tad's temple. Tad's eye looks up at Daniel and then to the gun. With one quick motion Tad pushes the gun forward as it goes off, missing Tad's face by a few inches.

Tad jumps to his feet, twists Daniel's arm and grabs the gun. He points it at Daniel's chest and shoots.

Daniel collapses to his knees GASPING and topples over.
